“What exactly did you do?” Dili asked, perplexed.
“You know? A blood oath.” Windy’s face went slack at seeing the witch’s confusion. “When you prick your fingertips, share drops of blood, and then kiss your lips? And then make the magic vow.”
“Yes, I know the spell and ritual, but you are not paranormal,” Dili said.
“But I know how it works, and I read that all that matters is that you get the words perfect which isn’t that hard,” Windy said. “Actually, the hardest part was kissing him, and that wasn’t even too bad. The weird part was Mr. Jasper said he was only seventy-five years old, which is technically not even teenage years in skinshifter terms, so it’s almost like it was awkward for someone so young to be kissing me.” Windy caught sight of Bianca’s darkening expression, then stuttered. “I-if you, uh, d-depending how you think about it.”
Bianca put her head into her hands, muttering for the lost divines to come back and spare her just this once. Dili did not comment. Some things were best left as family matters, and the witch knew very well where that line was.
“Does it help that I asked Mr. Jasper to turn into my crush so it was kind of like practice for my real first kiss?” the girl asked.
Bianca groaned. “I can’t believe I’m related to you.”
“Hey, it’s not that weird! You used to practice kissing on—”
“Shut up!” Bianca hissed.
Windy grinned impishly. “Bibi and Mu Shu, sitting in a tree, K—I—S—argh!”
