On this Earth, humans don’t just live with magic and its users; they embrace it. Magic is a well-known and frequently used force that can change physics, accomplish the impossible, and even create life itself. Magic can be used for everything, from the mundane everyday chores to the spectacular once-in-a-lifetime achievements, but only by a select few.

Only “first ones” and “mutant ones” can wield this power, but the magic system is common knowledge. All magical species can cast general magic, but each species has a unique type magic.

Both general and type magic are tiered into three levels: common, rare, and epic casts. Using combustion as an example, a common cast might be to light a candle, a rare cast to sustain a fire with no wood, and an epic cast to create fire in a vacuum. The more powerful the user, the easier it is to do higher-level casts.

The First Ones

As the name implies, the first ones came to be when both magic and time began. There are only three first ones: demigods, witches, and skinshifters.

Demigods: had the power of divine magic. With each of their creations, so they too grew, but the greater the demigod, the more magic they needed to survive. By the mid-seventeenth century, the last demigod passed away in their sleep as their power outgrew the magic available on Earth. Prior to their extinction, various demigods created the mutant ones.

Witches: have the power of natural magic. They are the sowers of seeds and seekers of starlight, and everywhere they pass, anything green, anything that breathes, anything that lives will grow big and beautiful.

Skinshifters: have the power of illusion magic. They are the masters of the mask and makers of mischief, and everywhere they wander, nothing is what it seems, and everything is what it is not.

The Mutant Ones

Vampires: have the power of blood magic. Created at the whim of a demigod who was bemused by a witch’s touch, vampires are the twisted product of fascination skewed by irresponsible power. They were made lifeless, and so are cursed to always hunt for it. Vampires were created somewhere in the Caucasus mountains around 400 CE.

Sirens: have the power of summoning magic. Legend has it that sirens and goblins are the end-products of a powerful demigod’s creative ambitions gone so horribly wrong, that the creature had to be permanently split into two different beings. Sirens and goblins are said to have been created somewhere along the Nile river around 1600 BCE.

Goblins: have the power of crafting magic. Legend has it that goblins and sirens are the end-products of a powerful demigod’s creative ambitions gone so horribly wrong, that the creature had to permanently split into two different beings. Goblins and sirens are said to have been created somewhere along the Nile river around 1600 BCE.

Seers: have the power of foresight magic. The seers were the first mutant ones to survive without constant divine support. Over 20,000 years ago, on an island that is now far beneath water, a demigod desired the perfect servant. Finding no one worthy, they built what they couldn’t find. For a very long time, for every demigod, there was a seer bound to them, but now, no more will ever be made. The seers who still live are free in the modern world, wherever they can coexist with humans who tolerate their erratic outbursts and unwanted predictions.
