As this year comes to a close and I look ahead, I’m so excited for everything in store in the Harmony universe. So far this year, I’ve written another half a million words across the main series and the parallel series, with another half million to go (I expect).
So why hasn’t there been a release since February? It’s been ages!
For a while, it was because the cover situation was still uncertain. Now that covers are coming, though, it’s yet another issue.
The simple answer? Scheduling editing.
I do extensive world building across my three working series, and I’ve been keeping my editors very busy with my ambitious story goals and writing pace. It takes a lot of time to get my books edited to a polished plot, and then I also need proof reading.
Right now, the earliest I can get on my editor’s proof reading schedule for all these new words is next May.
This scheduling whammy puts me in a tough spot. I never expected to have a year+ gap between releases. I hate how it leaves you, my fantastic readers, hanging for so long.
At the same time, I will not publish a book that has not been professionally proof read. I know my bad typo habits. The number of times I accidentally spell “form” instead of “from” is embarrassing, and that’s one of my most mild errors.
That said, I’m keeping my mindset focused on what I can promise. I may not have the 14-book launch I was hoping for next year, but I can guarantee one thing:
The main series, meaning all the books from Lucky’s POV, will be completed and published next year. That includes a second edition release of Storm Claw, Earth Song, Blood Shield, and Wing Strike, and a debut release of Spirit Sound (working title for book 4) and Moon Song.
While my publishing focus will be the main series, I will continue drafting and serializing more installments of Tiger Training Diaries. Ideally, I will officially release Parts 1 and 2 of TTD next summer and fall.
I will also be working on the mage novellas. Depending on newsletter subscriber feedback, I may serialize the beta versions of the mage novellas, too.
As I bring the main series to a close, a tsunami of emotions take hold. I feel bittersweet nostalgia and electric anticipation equally. I will be very sad to put this part of the story behind me, but the wonderful thing about the Harmony universe is… this ending has always been my beginning.
In my master plan, Lucky’s story has always had three parts. Smirkums has her own adventures waiting. And so does Jason.
Harmony may end in 2024, but the characters and their journeys will endure.
But that’s for 2025 and beyond.
For now, though, I assure you that you will get a minimum of six releases in the main series next year. Hopefully more, if I can hog my editor’s schedule through the summer and fall, but we’ll see.
I will keep you updated as I learn more, schedules change, or if life throws a new wrench in my plans.
Until then, I hope you can curl up with a mug, unplug from the ordinary, and escape from your couch.
Wishing you many more wonderful reads,
